Backyard Hot Composting

Composting educator, Steve Libbey, has been cleaning up the yard to provide the feedstock for a hot pile. A hot pile requires enough high-nitrogen materials to get the pile to heat up. A hot pile takes more effort but will produce compost more quickly—in several weeks to several months. However, hot compost is an outdoor process so can be impacted by weather swings. This class will be offsite and class location (within Ames) will be provided after registration is complete.
