Park(ing) Day in Downtown Ames

Park(ing) day is a global, public, participatory project launched by Rebar in 2005. It is a day where people across the world temporarily repurpose curbside parking spaces and convert them into parks and social spaces to advocate for safer, greener, and more equitable streets for people.

Students from the Iowa State University Landscape Architecture program have partnered with Downtown Ames businesses to create unique and eciting opportunities to engage in dialog aound how cities are built and placemaking opportunities.

Over the course of three days, visit parklets at the following businesses

  • Dog-Eared Books | 203 Main Street
  • The Knittery Nook | 219 Main Street
  • Ames History Museum| 416 Douglas
  • Octagon Center for the Arts | 427 Douglas Avenue
  • Ames Public Library | 515 Douglas Avenue
