There are six studios in downtown Ames.

  • Jennifer Drinkwater (312 Main St., Second Floor, Ames) The What’s Good Project celebrates the meaningful stories from where we live. Inspired by the conversations she has with folks around the country, Jennifer creates original paintings about what’s good in each of their communities. A portion of each art sale is donated back to these communities.
  • KHOI Community Radio (622 Douglas Ave., Ames) KHOI Community Radio is dedicated to welcoming all voices of the community, regardless of their perspectives, to freely discuss issues, nourish the spirit, and entertain. Visit KHOI during the studio tour to record a testimonial and check out the new location.
  • Kyle Renell (Kyle Renell Arts, 208 5th St., #204, Ames) Kyle’s body of work is multi-faceted and concentrated on interconnectedness of human beings, the human condition, and social issues. Her current medium is acrylic painting and drawings on paper and she is working on two different series including a dreamwork analysis and also an abstract interpretation of mass shootings.
  • Kristin Roach (138 Main St., Ames) Kristin is an artist, naturalist, and apothecary owner. Trained in painting with a history in craft & fibers, she takes an interdisciplinary approach to her work. Kristin uses scientific data and cast-off materials to create drawings, paintings, and immersive installations about her backyard ecology.
  • Melissa Stenstrom (Melissa Stenstrom Jewelry, 507 Main St., Suite 1, Ames) Melissa makes jewelry using silver, gold, gemstones, and pearls. She works with a range of techniques such as anticlastic raising, forging, fabricating, casting, and engraving.
  • Barbara Walton (312 Main St., Second Floor, Ames) Barbara began experimenting with encaustic painting in 2002. An ancient technique which predates oil painting, the traditional medium is pigmented molten beeswax transferred with a brush. Barbara’s work attempts to express what she has experienced, not literally but poetically, with subjects that exist within the ambiguity of space and circumstance.
